soaked with beer and brats

This past weekend was Soulard’s Oktoberfest. It was a three-day festival in Lyon Park, near the Anheuser Busch Brewery in St. Louis. On Saturday I went to cover the event for the Riverfront Times (the slideshow can be seen here). As the title of this blog hints at, I shot the sausage-eating contest,  beer-drinking competition, beer-stein holding contest, as well as all the other festivities going on that day. I had never seen anything like it before. Especially the competitions. I was shooting the sausage-eating contest so close I could have ate a brat if I wanted to. As far as the beer-drinking competiton (Beer Fest as they called it) let’s just say I had to back away from shooting when people began to barf. Besides the vomiting, Beer Fest was actually the most fun event I had shot in a long time. A huge crowd filled the tent the competition was in, the teams were all exhilarating, and I ended up getting some sweet photos of the winning team. I compiled some of my favorite images as well as ones that didn’t make the RFT edit.

Ziggy Zaggy, Ziggy Zaggy, Oi! Oi! Oi!

  1. Thanks Mo! The crowd for the drinking contest was so hyped after every team it was hard not to capture it. Wouldn’t mind shooting another eating/drinking competition.
